Fireballs in my Eucharist – Fight Cancer Smarter Fireballs in my Eucharist - Fight Cancer Smarter

Hi my name is Dr. Joseph Pinzone and I am the CEO and Medical Director of Amai, an Innovative Medical and Wellness Practice, Inc. I have recently published a book titled, Fireballs in my Eucharist – Fight Cancer Smarter. Now, I know the title is both catchy and thought provoking at the same time, and there’s a story behind it. During my medical training, I was interviewing a middle-aged woman. I was asking her about her past medical history. She told me about a variety of illnesses that she had, and then she said “Oh yes! I have fireballs in my Eucharist.” I had never heard that term at all, and I realized, after questioning her, that she was trying to tell me, she had fibroids in her uterus. That was the first I really realized how much education patients need. I knew from personal experience that the more educated you are on a topic, the more you can feel you can conquer the topic.
My book in no way is designed to make you a physician. What it’s designed to do, is to give you the fundamental tools you need to understand what’s happening in your body:
  • To understand how to get the most out of the medical system.
  • To understand the right questions to ask, and most importantly to allow you to acknowledge that the power to heal starts and ends with you.
  • You have the power to heal.
We don’t always feel that’s the case. And it’s true, there are some things that medicine can’t fully heal. But my point is that you give some of that power away by your own choices. I’ll provide an example:
Someone comes in and they have appendicitis. Rather than performing the operation on themselves, they choose a surgeon and anesthesiologist so they can have their appendix out, and they can be asleep during the procedure, and not feel it.
Now this is a silly example but it shows that you have transferred the power, by your choice, by paying someone else (with more power to heal you in this situation) to do it. You leveraged their power; but make no mistake, it was you who made the decision.
The essence of my book, Fireballs in my Eucharist, from beginning to end is to make you a more powerful patient. I wrote it on cancer because I have taken care of many patients living with cancer, and I noticed that particular type of disease lends itself well to a book about how making powerful decisions can mean the difference between life and death.
